Longzhong is the vary place where Zhuge Liang lived and studied from 17 to 27 years old(l97AD-207AD). The famous story "Liu Bei paid Three Visits to Zhuge Liang did take place there .Zhuge Liang s extraordinary strategy Longzhong Planing has greatly influenced the evolution and development of the story at that time. It s the origin of dividing the realm with three kindoms. That s why Longzhong is so important in the history of the Three Kingdoms. For thousands of years, Longzhong has attracted people to visit, it has become a well-known place for people to memorize past sages. In 207AD, Zhuge Liang left Longzhong with Liu Bei.The thatched hut he lived was buried in Mianyang, Hanzhong Country. The last king of the Shu-Han Kindom, Liu Chan , built a temple besides Zhuge Liang tomb to memorize this great strategist. In the years of Yongxing of the Jin Dynasty ,Liu Hong~a general defended Xiangyang City at the time-visited Zhuge Liang s residence. The sights stroke a chord in his heart. So he ordered his adviser Li Xing to write an address to memorize Zhuge Liang. This address was sculptured in a stone tablet , and it s the first tablet to memorize Zhuge Liang in history. During the years of the East Jin Dynasty, the former residence of Zhuge Liangwas renewed. And the memorial temple of Lord Wu was established. In the second year of Hongzhi of the Ming Dynasty(1489AD). Zhu Jianshu, who inherited the rank of Prince Xiangyang, visited here. He was impressed with the beautiful environment of Longzhong, and thought that it was aplace of good omen. Then Zhu Jianshu chose Longzhong as his tomb site.He pull down Zhuge Liang s residence, moved out Longzhong Academy, drove off people living there and closed the mountain passes. Then he started a huge construction in Longzhong to build his tomb. Almost all former ancient architectures were demolished. Especially those rare stone tablets from the Jin Dynasty till the Song Dynasty were wholly destroyed with nothing left. That s the biggest disaster Longzhong had experienced after Zhuge Liang left for more than 1200 years. In the year of Yiyou of the Ming Dynasty, Xu Xian-magistrate of XiangYang at that time-paid a visit to Longzhong. He was so astonished and sad for what he saw. His heart ached at the ruins of Zhuge Liang s residence and the falling memorial temple. So he and his friend Wang Xiu~a imperial supervisor-advocated the rebuilading of the memorial temple of Lord Wu. The construction of new temple was finished at the 19th year of JiaQing of the Ming Dynasty (1540AD). Jiang Hui, a famous calligrapher at that time, wrote words on tablet: Thatched Hut on the face, and Dragon Sleeping Place on the back. This tablet remains perfect in front of the temple at present. In the 20th year of Wanli of the Ming Dynasty(1592AD), another senior official Li Zhen renewed the temple once more. In addtion, he built more halls and bought some fields for the temple. After that, he left a tablet with record of renewing .This tablet tells people what happened after the disaster brought by Prince of Xiangjian.A portrait of Zhuge Liang was carved on the back of the tablet. This portraitsi the earlist one of Zhuge Liang remained in China. Uprising peasants destroyed the temple again in the last year of the Ming Dynasty.Till the 59th year of KangXi in the Qing Dynasty(1720AD), it was rebuilt by Zhao Hong en, a supervisor in Xiangyang. This time, not only the memorial temple was rebuilt, but also a new CaoLu (thatched hut) Pavillion was set up. From the 14th to 19th year of Guangxu, in the Qing Dynasty, Cheng Wenbing-minister of the Ministry of War, general officer of Huguang district-built Knee-embracing Pavillion and the tablet of Ancient Longzhong . With the foundation of the people s Republic of China, the government attached much more importance to protect this historical relic.
