Xiangfan profile
Located in the northwest of Hubei, china, on the middle reach of the Han River, Xiangfan is well known for merging Xiangyang and Fancheng, ancient city and ancient port respectively. With a total area of 19700 square kms and total population of 5.8 million, constructed area covering 100 square kms upon which live 120300 people, it is the second largest city in Hubei province. In 2005, Xiangfan ranks No.4 among the most factory-friendly cities listed on Forbes—the most influential commercial magazine in the U.S, based on the calculation of nearly three year’s average of three indexes, workforce (numbers of college degree holders per 10000 people), operation cost (labor price, land rent, tax, energy and etc) freight cost (railway, road, water/land, air and etc), and No.54 among the best commercial cites in China. Xiangfan is an important base of Dongfeng Automobile Company for the development of heavy diesel vehicles, light vehicles and sedans, with the largest automobile production base and the most advanced vehicle trial field across the country. The city has more than 180 auto- parts manufacturers and is the important base of auto parts production in China. With Dongfeng Nissan joint project of annual production of 10000 economical sedans being started, Xiangfan is speeding up to become an “Auto City” on Chinese inland.
Xiangfan is a “ national historical and cultural city”, “china’s excellent tourist city”, “one of china’s top 10 charming cities”. It has a history of 2800 years. Zhu Geliang, wisdom icon of Chinese people, had inhabited in Ancient Longzhong 13 kms west of Xiangyang for 10 years. Mi Fu, Meng Haoran, Zhang Ji, Shong Yu, all these literators had endowed Xiangfan with more humanism. Within the prefecture there are 36 sightseeing spots at national or provincial level, among which Ancient Longzhong is listed at national level 4A.
